How the business got here

Altitude started as general renovation and repair, whatever needed doing. Over time, more and more of the calls were bathrooms. Repair a shower. Fix a leak. Replace a room that was not working. It turned out that was also the work Luke liked most and was best at, so the business followed it. Bathrooms and kitchens became the focus, with general renovation and repair still available alongside them.

Tile sits at the center of it. It is where the design thinking and the hands-on craft meet, and it is unforgiving in a way that suits somebody who cares about getting things right. What Luke enjoys is the design side of the work and what a project can do to a house: either transforming the whole thing, or changing one important room and watching how much more comfortable the home becomes.

Before renovation

Luke came out of the oil and gas service industry, managing multimillion-dollar accounts. Timing and accountability were the factors that decided whether those accounts went well, and those expectations came into contracting with him: be punctual, take personal responsibility, stay committed to the task in front of you, ask questions rather than assume, and communicate clearly with the client.

That is why this business is not built only around craftsmanship. It is built around systems, deadlines, ownership, and the discipline it takes to keep a complicated project moving.

The belief underneath all of it

A well-designed bathroom or kitchen can change how a person feels about their whole home, because these are rooms people use every single day. Better design makes a house more comfortable, more usable, and more enjoyable to live in. That is not a poetic claim. It is the practical reason this work is worth doing carefully.

We do not just change rooms. We create spaces that work better, feel better, and continue to look beautiful for as long as you have the home.

Where we work

Durango, Colorado and the surrounding towns. It is a smaller resort-style mountain community with a lot of second homes, and that shapes the work in two directions. Some homeowners need practical accessibility changes as a part-time house becomes a full-time one. Others own high-end custom homes where a shower that was built badly a few years ago is now failing.

Altitude is comfortable with both: the urgent necessity and the considered improvement.

In short

Local, and staying that way

Altitude is not a large anonymous contractor and is not trying to become one. We are neighbors to the people we work for. Being available, answering the phone, and standing behind the work are the relationship.

How we try to sound and act

Four things we hold ourselves to.

These are not slogans. They are the standards we would want a contractor to be measured against if it were our house.

01

Authentic

We say what is true about the work and the process. No exaggerated claims, no generic contractor language, and no describing a project as perfect or guaranteed when nobody can promise that. The real stories are more persuasive anyway.

02

Accommodating

We listen to your concerns and your input, and we adapt when the project calls for it. You should feel like we are working with you rather than talking over you in your own house.

03

Systematic

Scope, timelines, mile markers, testing, change orders, clear expectations. The structure is not bureaucracy. It is a large part of the value, and it is what keeps a difficult project from turning into a bad one.

04

Knowledgeable

We explain what is happening and why, in plain language. Materials, waterproofing, layout, accessibility, hidden conditions, and long-term implications. Educational, never condescending. You should not have to trust us blindly.

See how those four turn into a process

Being direct about it

What we will not pretend.

Warm, but not vague. Friendly, but not casual about standards.

We will not tell you that no surprises will happen on your project. We will tell you how we respond when they do.

We will not imply every job we take is luxury work. Projects come in different sizes, and there are sensible options at most of them. What we will not do is frame any project as disposable, rushed, or intentionally below standard. That goes for a rental, and it goes for a repair.

We will not lead with flooring, because whole-house flooring is not where our strength is and we would rather say so than take the job.

And we will not talk about accessible work as a downgrade. A bathroom designed around how someone actually needs to use it is not a compromise. Done properly, it is the best room in the house.

Credibility, plainly stated

What we bring to a project.

Six things we would want a homeowner to check, if the homeowner were us.

Experience running work where accountability mattered

Oil and gas service, managing multimillion-dollar accounts, where timing and follow-through were the difference between a successful account and a lost one. That is the origin of the scope, the sequencing, and the mile markers.

Hands-on tile and bathroom experience

Including the high-consequence decisions that are invisible in the finished room and determine whether it lasts. Waterproofing systems, pan construction, slope, layout.

Coordinating other people

Plumbers, electricians, structural repairs, insurance companies, and adjusters. On a project with several moving parts, somebody has to own the sequence. On our jobs, that is us, not you.

Adapting when demolition changes the job

Structural, plumbing, and moisture conditions that were not visible before the wall came off. We have handled them, priced them honestly, and kept projects moving through them.

Continuing education

Design, materials, accessibility products, and installation methods change. We keep learning about them because it improves the end result, not because it is a marketing line.

Staying accountable after the job

We are local. The project ending is not the end of the relationship, and you should be able to call a year later and get an answer.
